In line with changes in French legislation, the optional year in a company (or gap year) may be completed during either the M1 or M2 year.
The gap year period may last for a maximum duration equivalent to one academic year, during which a student enrolled in a higher education programme temporarily suspends their studies in order to gain personal and/or professional experience, either independently or within a host organisation in France or abroad.
This option is based on the student’s strict voluntary commitment and cannot be made compulsory for the award of the degree, either before or after the suspension of studies. If the internship takes place in France, it may not exceed a period of six months within the same company.
The gap year must include a minimum of 10 months of professional experience.
Ideally, it consists of two internships of five to six months each, or alternatively three internships of three to four months. The gap year begins in January and must end no later than 31 December of the same year.
Validation of the gap year alone is not sufficient to meet the graduation requirement relating to professional experience.
