Is it possible to do a gap year?

Last update: Thursday, Dec 19, 2024

In compliance with the evolution of French legislation, the optional year in a company (or "césure") can be carried out during the M1 or M2 year: the "césure" period lasts for a maximum of one year during which a student, enrolled in a higher education program, temporarily suspends it with the aim of acquiring personal/professional experience, either autonomously, or within a host organization in France or abroad.

It is carried out on a strictly voluntary basis by the student who commits to it and cannot be made necessary for obtaining the degree prepared before and after this suspension. If the internship takes place in France, it covers a maximum period of 6 months in the same company.

The gap year will include a minimum of 10 months of professional experience. Ideally, it will be composed of two 5/6 month internships, and possibly three 3/4 month internships. It starts in January and ends on December 31 of the same year.

Validating the gap year is not sufficient to meet the graduation criteria concerning professional experience.
